Just out of school, these teenagers are aspiring for an exciting college life, free of restrictions.
NEW DELHI: It's not just the course or the college that is keeping the excitement brimming among admission seekers to Delhi University (DU), it's also the idea of stepping into a whole new world. Just out of school, these teenagers are aspiring for an exciting college life, free of restrictions. If for girls the biggest priority is to acquire the trendiest wardrobe and accessories this season, for boys, it's getting the latest mobile phone or other gadgets that is the most hip thing.
And their reasons are varied while some want to make a style statement on their first day in college, others want to make it clear that they are no more kids. Even before they are able to secure a seat in DU, generation next is thrilled by the accounts of the freedom and excitement that awaits them in college. "College life means having fun and freedom.
It's really exciting to think that now I would not be answerable to teachers and class monitors. I just got myself a new high-end camera phone and bike. I don't want to go to college in these DTC buses," said Himanshu Dua, a student applying for the business economy course. Neither does Asmit Singh, aspiring to do economic honours, who has finally been given permission to ride a motor bike to college by his parents. "I am a very tech-savvy person.
That's why I have the latest blackberry technology so that I can access all my e-mails even in the college. I even got my parent's permission to ride a bike to college," he said. And while boys are exploring technological options, its fashion all the way for the girls. "I have been shopping madly. As I have been a student of fashion, I know what's cool this season... ... I have got halter neck tops, long and short skirts, capris and matching stilettos," said Jagriti Nischal, a student of Manav Sthali school. The look this season is going be ultra-hip and comfortable, considering the sweltering heat. "For me fashion means comfort and I think salwar-kameez is the trendiest outfit this season. It's comfortable as well as Indian. To add some zing, I will pair it up with bandanas and funky jewellery," said Sonia, a student of Delhi Public School RK Puram. However, what's common among the lot is their affinity for cheap, trendy clothes. "In college you need quantity more than a brand name. I have done all my shopping from the roadside market at Janpath and Sarojini Nagar. These clothes are equally appealing. At the end, what matters is how you carry yourself," said Ashima Mohindra, a student of Rai International.
